Change Your Diet

One of the aspects of our way of living that has the most impact on our overall health is the proper diet. A balanced diet will benefit your whole body, including your hair. Some studies have shown that one way to reduce the risk of female pattern baldness or male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia is to eat more fresh vegetables and herbs (at least three days per week). Another study has shown that people who were losing hair had nutritional deficits. These subjects were deficient in amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins that make up hair. However, more studies are needed to shed more light on which nutritive prevents hair loss the most. Regardless of this, it’s important to create a habit of eating more healthily.

Supplements

One of the ways to correct a bad diet, or to make one even better is through the use of supplementation. By now it’s quite clear how and why a proper diet can prevent loss of hair, about the same aspects apply to supplementation, they are just more specific to certain aspects. Some of the most important supplements that can be used for this particular problem are mostly vitamins such as vitamins A, vitamin B, vitamin C, and vitamin D. Another supplement are trace elements such as selenium and zinc. All of these supplements are available at every local drug store, and they are quite cheap. Biotin, a type of vitamin B is especially important to ingest because it plays an essential role in the hair life cycle.

Medical Treatment

Unfortunately, sometimes all the measures and precautions to prevent hair loss don’t seem to work, and the person at hand has to turn to some form of medical treatment to get their natural hair back. The most common medical treatments used for this sort of problem are laser therapy, platelet-rich plasma, and hair transplants. Laser therapy is used to improve the density of the hair. It is also called red light therapy because it may help to stimulate the stem cells which are in charge of creating new hair cells. Hair transplant has become very popular in recent years. The main reason for this is that this technique gives the most visible results in a very short time. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) stimulates hair growth by injecting platelets previously separated from the blood into the scalp.

Essential Oils

Hair loss has been an ongoing problem for people throughout the years. This is why there have been many studies conducted on this specific subject. One of the most interesting ones was about testing the effect essential oils had on hair loss prevention and treatment. Namely almost half of the people that were using cedarwood oil mixed with herbs had significant improvements in hair loss. Additional essential oils that were found helpful were peppermint oil and lemongrass oil. These should not be used directly, but instead, they should be mixed with a “carrier” oil such as grapeseed oil or jojoba oil. It should be applied to the scalp for about 10 minutes before you thoroughly wash it out. Some additional substances, however unusual they might be, have also shown promise in hair loss treatment like onion juice.

Regular Care

A healthy diet can only go so far in preventing hair loss without regular hair care. The aspects of hair “maintenance” that is the most important are regular washing and careful hair processing. Washing the hair regularly can most certainly protect against hair loss because it keeps the scalp clean and thus, healthy. It’s important to use a very mild shampoo, as more heavy formulas could dry it out which leads to small tears that cause hair to fall out. Another aspect that can help in the prevention of hair loss is to be very careful about how you process your hair. As a rule of thumb, chemical alterations of the hair such as perms and hair colors damage the scalp in a certain measure, depending on the ingredients used.

However common the hair loss problem might be, the rapid progress of medicine has allowed us insight into preventing this problem, and the tools to treat it. Be sure to implement these tips into your everyday life to have healthier hair.
