Hey local friends! I’m pleased to announce that this year I’m hosting a charity walk that promotes postpartum mental health awareness, it’s called Climb out of the Darkness!
What is Climb Out of the Darkness®?
Climb Out of the Darkness® is the world’s largest event raising awareness of
Perinatal mental illness, including pregnancy and postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, psychosis and post-traumatic stress. The event is run by the nonprofit Postpartum Support International every year on or near the summer solstice (the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere). Teams and their supporters gather to climb out of the darkness by walking, climbing, or hiking together to help shine the most light on perinatal mental illness and to raise funds to support the fight against PMADs.
This year, I will be hosting the first ever Climb in DeKalb County! Join us on June 24th at 11am at Afton Forest Preserve. Enter at the North Entrance and park in the lot to the left.
Also this year, your donation will benefit both Pospartum Support International and the DeKalb Family Service Agency, a Non-For Profit that offers counseling services, a chlidren’s advocacy center, big brothers big sisters, and a senior center. We also have a new mom support group that meets twice per month. I happen to work there and it’s a pretty amazing place.
Please spread the word to all of your clients, patients, and mamas in your life! Together we can spread awareness of PMADs and have a great time doing it.
